Application-Based Coexistence of Different Waveforms on Non-orthogonal Multiple Access

    Get PDF
The coexistence of different wireless communication systems such as LTE and Wi-Fi by sharing the unlicensed band is well studied in the literature. In these studies, various methods are proposed to support the coexistence of systems, including listen-before-talk mechanism, joint user association and resource allocation. However, in this study, the coexistence of different waveform structures in the same resource elements are studied under the theory of non-orthogonal multiple access. This study introduces a paradigm-shift on NOMA towards the application-centric waveform coexistence. Throughout the paper, the coexistence of different waveforms is explained with two specific use cases, which are power-balanced NOMA and joint radar-sensing and communication with NOMA. In addition, some of the previous works in the literature regarding non-orthogonal waveform coexistence are reviewed. However, the concept is not limited to these use cases. With the rapid development of wireless technology, next-generation wireless systems are proposed to be flexible and hybrid, having different kinds of capabilities such as sensing, security, intelligence, control, and computing. Therefore, the concept of different waveforms' coexistence to meet these concerns are becoming impressive for researchers.Comment: Submitted to IEEE for possible publication. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2007.05753, arXiv:2003.0554

In this study, a novel transmission scheme is proposed to serve radar-sensing and communication objectives at the same time and allocated bandwidth. The proposed transmitted frame non-orthogonally superimposes two different waveforms, which are frequency modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) for radar-sensing and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) for communication. Also, the receiver scheme that performs channel estimation via radar-sensing functionality without degrading data rate of communication operation is introduced. As numerically evaluated, the proposed system achieves good sensing accuracy even if the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is low, and communication performance is only 0 similar to 6 dB less at the target bit-error rate (BER) of 1% compared to the assumption of perfect channel state information (CSI) without any pilot overhead over OFDM subcarriers

The growing interest in diverse wireless applications such as virtual reality (VR), digital twin, ultra-massive broadband communication (u-MBB) has led the cellular industry to look for new multiple accessing schemes and new signal processing techniques for utilization of next-generation wireless technologies. Throughout the PhD duration, different studies are performed in regards to dual-functional and interference robust multiple accessing and control of electromagnetic radiation for cognitive radio systems. Firstly, a novel concept on non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), which is the coexistence of different waveform structures in the same resource elements is proposed. Secondly, a novel JCR waveform is proposed to serve both communication and radar applications with the same resources. Thirdly, rate-splitting (RS) in OFDM waveform is investigated. It is shown that even in single-input single-output (SISO) BC scenario, the proposed OFDM-RSMA outperforms OFDM-NOMA and OFDMA in diverse channel conditions. Finally, the formation of smart radio environment is introduced considering efficient utilization of radio spectrum in any given geographical area, which can be also viewed as a generalization of cognitive radio technology

This paper introduces a modified reduced-order model with aim to use in the dynamic analysis of flexible robot-manipulators. The model structure is firstly discussed theoretically, then numerically, and finally experimentally in terms of efficiency, utility and robustness. Due to the deterministic structure of the model, which is formed by taking into account the specific features of the system, a successful model can be created without the need for wide range of training data such in probabilistic methods. Because of the simplicity of the model, it is able to realize a dramatic decrease in the analysis period compared to FEA programs. The model is also quite successful in reflecting the robot's nonlinear trigonometric position responses. Besides, an open loop model-associative vibration control method was used to show the utility and satisfactory results were achieved in the actual system. Furthermore, the ability of the model to perform multiple scenarios in a short time allowed the case-study of the control input parameters. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

This paper presents the vibration control problem of the single-link flexible composite manipulators. Two different materials of composite which are epoxy-glass and carbon-fiber are considered for both simulation and experimental analyses. Manipulators are obliged to perform a job such as pick and place applications and machining a workpiece. Therefore, a payload is attached to the manipulators. If the system is suitable for loading applications, the improved vibration control method is used to suppress the residual vibrations of the manipulators. The simulation results are verified with experimental results and it is observed that the proposed vibration control method significantly reduces the residual vibrations compared to passive vibration control method in literature. Additionally, the stresses during motion are analyzed for both simulation and experiment and the effectiveness of the proposed method on the stresses is investigated. Results showed that only the carbon-fiber manipulator is suitable for payload applications and its utilization efficiency can be greatly improved by the proposed method

This chapter focuses on the issue of how to intelligently share the resources in a hyperspace whose dimensions are time, frequency, space, beam, and code. Most of the wireless communication standards prefer to design orthogonal frames in order to manage the interference between the users. The concept of non-orthogonal multiple access has been proposed to overcome the limitation of orthogonal resources. The chapter also provides a comparison between random access schemes. It presents insight into which specific scheduled or random access technique to apply. The chapter emphasizes the real wireless system development problem of how to design a multiuser system depending on the system requirements, traffic characteristics of users in the network, performance measurements, channel characteristics, and other interfering systems operating in the same bandwidth. It examines a novel concept called radar-sensing and communication convergence by the perspective of the hybrid waveforms concept

This paper presents different modeling technique approaches of the single-link uniform cross-sectional shape manipulators. Three different materials of manipulators which are epoxy-glass and carbon-fiber for composite manipulators and steel manipulator are considered for both simulation and experimental analyses. Three different modelling techniques which are solid, beam and shell models are used for both manipulators. The study consists of three steps. In the first step, the manipulators are modeled in ANSYS for finite element analyses. In the second step, modal analysis is carried out in order to find the frequencies of the manipulators. In the third step, transient analysis is performed to investigate the success of different modeling approaches with experimental results. It is observed that the simulation results with three different modeling approaches have well matched with the experimental results and then, elapsed times for the transient analyses are investigated to find the appropriate modeling technique for the manipulator
